Wheelchair cushion

Wheelchair cushions

Wheelchair cushions are practical comfort aids that provide better pressure relief and better support for older and disabled wheelchair users. The use of a wheelchair cushion can reduce the risk of developing pressure sores and at the same time greatly improve the comfort of the user. These cushions are very beneficial for people who spend a lot of time using their wheelchair.

Sitting for long periods without moving is a cause of pain in the buttocks.
An anti-decubitus pillow can reduce this pain. If the pain is not felt or if the body is unable to shift its position, damage to the body tissue can occur. The buttock lumps and the coccyx are sensitive areas for this phenomenon. When no action is taken, small wounds are created here, also called pressure ulcers.

An anti-decubitus cushion tries to prevent pain and small wounds from sitting. Most anti-decubitus pads do this by evenly distributing pressure over the entire surface.
If no special measures are taken when assembling the wheelchair, an anti-decubitus cushion does not solve the problem of friction in the seat. Even with an anti-decubitus cushion, the thighs slowly slide forward. This creates friction on the skin and the user will fall down.

First of all, a correct posture angle is created. There the friction problem is solved and a pressure distribution arises that transfers the sitting pressure on the pelvis to the thighs. In this way, the buttock cusps and the coccyx are stressed, causing problems such as pressure sores.
